Bought a defect ps2 for a buck. The ribboncable for the power and eject buttons was broken, and the laser needed adjustments.
The cable was creased at one of the ends to a degree where one of the lines had broke. So I cut a small bit of to sand it. But I forgot to remove the powercord when I cut the ribbon cable and as I cut through all the lines I must have connected the right traces because the console powered up. I shut it of and continued with sanding the ribboncable. Put the cable back and tried it out. The red LED on the powerbutton is lit but nothing happens when I press it.
I've pinned down which traces that connect when the powerbutton is pressed and I've tried to short these manually but I still can't get it to boot.
Did I blow a fuse or something when I accidentely hot-wired the console?
Anyone who has had similar problems?
EDIT: Nevermind, got it to power up now! Think I'm going to have to buy a new cable though. The original end was a bit thicker then the cable itself. It had that piece of blue plastic on it that I've seen on a lot of ribbon cables. I'm trying to get it in the right position and securing it there though. Might be best to solder wires to the PCB directly.
Well, do I win the price for the most useless thread or what?
