Having an issue with my laptop/PS3 HDD turned portable USB hard drive.
I know my SATA encoder board is good as it works flawlessly on another laptop drive.
The issue is this:
The computer detects it, but won't display it. The drivers installed fine. Everything seems to be up to spec. It's just not showing up to where I can use it. Is this a formating issue? If it is, how do I format it when I cant access it?
I also tried mounting it in Ubuntu, thinking maybe it was a conflict with Vista, and it says "Cannot mount drive" (Or something akin to that).
This is really bugging me because I'd like to...you know....USE my harddrive.
Ideas? Had this problem before? How'd you fix it? Were you even able to? Really need help guys.
You're awesome,

Re: Hard drive woes!
Try right-clicking "My Computer", click "Manage". In the Computer Management window that comes up, go to Storage>Disk Management. You might be able to find the drive in there to format it.
Note: I'm not sure if you can do this in Vista, since I've never really used it.

Re: Hard drive woes!
Does it work if you directly plug it into a motherboard SATA port?

This appears to be working, and is 2% in to a format. Thanks!vskid wrote:Try right-clicking "My Computer", click "Manage". In the Computer Management window that comes up, go to Storage>Disk Management. You might be able to find the drive in there to format it.

Umm...This is probably a major "Picard face-palm", "Nothing has ever failed quite as hard as you just did. EVER." on my part, but I never thought about checking....lol. If whats going on doesn't work, I'll try that. Thank you also. I'll let you all know if it worked.bicostp wrote:Does it work if you directly plug it into a motherboard SATA port?
