Something Stuck In Ipod Headphone Jack.

Post by Skalk » Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:38 am

I have part of a 1/8 jack stuck in the headphone jack of my ipod. When I went to pull the cord out the tip of it got stuck down in there. Any ideas on how to get it out?
Thanks
-Scott

sounds like you'll have to disassemble the iPod and try to push it out from the back side. I don't think you can get a replacement jack that size.

Indeed. If you can't get it out, consider hard-wiring the headphone cable to the solder points of the earphones; you use earphones with it anyway.

The problem with that, of course, being that if you break one of those fine wires, you have to open it, and do it again.

Pulling it out shouldn't be that hard. Just do what APHawkes said. It should work. If not...I don't know.

If its under warranty, I'd suggest sending it in.

Replace the fine wires with standard headphone (thicker) ones, and hot glue them in place so they don't get loose easily.

If you get some really thin pliers then you should be able to pull it out.

They really aren't that replaceable, very tiny stuff, I've only ever found one headphone jack that would fit in an iPod. You really can't push it out either, they're closed off at the end. And hardwiring a pair of headphones to it is just stupid considering how easily headphones are broken. Not to mention all of these things void your warranty if you try them (assuming it hasn't run out). Just grab either tweezers or a very small pair of pliers and yank it out, it's the simplest solution.

well you could take one of these
<a href="http://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x230 ... 682796.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x230 ... 682796.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
and cut one of the split off or leave it and solder the other side of and glue it like bacteria said

So basically it would be like this
<a href="http://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x230 ... iagram.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x230 ... iagram.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Put your mouth on it and suck?

(Not what she said, by the way. I was there. She said nothing like it.)
If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

If you do that, try not cutting the second output. That way you can share your tunes with somebody if you want. Or hook it up to two sets of speakers.

Have you every seen how tiny the traces are on the hp jack? Because I'm pretty sure any attempts would just burn through the cable.
Also, a replacement is like $13ish dollars. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Headphone-Jack-Assem ... 286.c0.m14
