Reinstalling Windows XP without a Windows disk?
Moderator:Moderators
So I want to format my PC, but I didn't get a Windows disk with my system. (They never gave me one... those bastards! ) Anyways, I have the registration key, so my question is: Can I *cough* obtain *cough* a copy of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (what is currently installed) and then use my legit key to install it? Will it count as a legitimate copy of Windows when Microsoft does those tests and such?

Yes, in fact you can even register the product with Microsoft and they don't seem to have any problems with it. I have been using the same product code for windows for the past 7 or 8 years over dozens of upgrades to the system (including a new hard drive, motherboard and CPU). Just make sure that when you are acquiring your Windows XP OEM disc through completely legal means that you get the right version. Windows Home keys don't work with Windows Pro keys.

To everyone, if there was anything illegal going on I wouldn't have posted it. However, he basically just wants to use software he already has the right to use. I haven't gotten any PMs from mods, but if I did something wrong please tell me.
