iMac Programs?

Post by schmellyfart » Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:48 pm

I just got an iMac at goodwill today and I wanted to know if there are any good programs that I should get for it.

Also, does anyone know to set up a network connection through and ethernet cable? I tried "network browser" and that didn't get me anywhere, but then again, I don't really know my way around a mac...

I'm an old Mac user (newest version I had was 8.0), so I may be a little off...

For internet over LAN, open the Appletalk control panel and select "Ethernet". It should work now.

I can think of a couple programs you really should download Use Google, lazy. : P:

GraphicConverter - Open, edit, and convert almost any image format into any other image format.
iCab - The only currently developed browser for classic Mac OS

Wow I'm glad my 10 dollar iMac came with OSX 10.3.9 on it! But really the only program I put on it is SNES9x and I don't know if it works with older versions of OSX.

Hmm, how much ram does OSX need? My iMac only has 128mb, but I dont think that is enough :(

I had to use software to limit my iBook to 64mb of RAM, because I dropped it and somehow some sector in the RAM between 64 and 128 got messed up, Rember tells me.

It runs okay, normal speed until I have more than 4 applications open. But then again it is 1ghz, while the iMac is what, 400mhz?

My G3 (pre-death) had 8.0. I ran some ps1 emulator on it, connectix? It ran good, pretty awesome piece of equipment.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Metroid fan: Mac OS 9 is Mac OS 9. OS X is OS X. OSX is not OS 9. :P Apple completely rewrote the system to run on a Unix-like core for OS X, because OS 9 was a huge mess of extensions, control panels, and code dating back to the early 80s.

totokan: Virtual Game Station?

schmellyfart: Any USB keyboard should work, and I think you should have at least 256 to run newer versions of OS X. You might be able to use an older version with 128 megs...

Yeah, unfortunatly the only keyboards we have laying around ar PS/2 keyboards.

I think I'll stick with OS 9.2 then.

I bought an iMac (bondi blue) just for the kb and mouse. I loved those, I am using the kb and mouse now. I mounted leds in the perspex around the edges, it looks really nice now, a blue one on the apple logo at the top.

I would show pics but a fried borrowed me camera so hey... latter!
