Maybe a Bit Too Hardcore

Post by Joes2Silly » Tue Oct 31, 2006 8:49 pm

Well, I have a micro-ATX motherboard with a AMD k6 lll that was overclocked from 450 Mhz to 550 Mhz (mobos limit). I have been screwing around with the voltages, and got it somewhat stable at 2.7 volts (stock was 2.4). After installing different RAM (PC100 I believe) I was able to get the OS (Ubuntu) to boot, sadly it crashed shortly after. Is there some way to stablalize my hardcore overclocking project besides puting it to a lower frequency :?:

Let me know how it goes. I just picked up a working AMD K6 450 mhz for $3 at a local junkshop.

lol, I almost got it to boot! I am 99% positive that it is a heat issue not a PSU issue, Ill probably go get some thermal compound and an intake fan :D

PS there is a place for a intake fan... but I dont know the size, should I go with a 80 mm or 90 mm fan :?:

You don't have thermal grease on the cpu!? Safe!

If I where you, I'd lower the speed (& voltage) until you put some on!

Okay, 30 minutes and $20 later: I got thermal grease and a 80mm fan. Everything works and now my system will boot @ 550 Mhz :D
