Help setting up tivo series 2

I am seting up our new tivo and i have been hooking it up to are reciver and have evrything exsept audio. At best buy they gave Me a digital optical aduio cable and the only place i could find to hook it up to was n the front and that dosent work any ideas

i i will exsplain it better i am conecting a tivo series to to a reciver and ther is video but no audio i was using a digital optical cable for sound but no dice so i tried normal RCA jacks and no dice again
