Flattening motherboards

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Flattening motherboards

Yes, it's a question about saving space :).

After looking at Ben's Xbox360 laptop (which is fantastic), I'm curious about how he managed to extend the leads on tall components (mainly the capacitors). I tried to do it before, but usually the remaining "stubs" of the component would fall off (probably due to too much heat when tinning or just being weak).

I was wondering if you have any tips on extending leads so I don't have to find the component from a shop or having to sacrifice another console for it.

Thanks :).

(Yes, I did search the forum but couldn't find an answer.)

Ya, just solder wire to each side that needs to be extended and solder the other end in the hole where it was.
