thats my CPU usage, and its pretty high.

Is my computer's ram and CPU adequate for Windows 2000, or should i downgrade to ME or 98/98se?

And how do i find out what the companies that made my Video, and sound cards are?

Should i buy a new computer or a Mac?

1. Run ad-aware

2. Open MSconfig (type msconfig in the Run... windowq) and disable startup junk you don't need

3. Buy more RAM. RAM is good.

4. If you have junk running like AIM or gamespy, and you don't absolutely need it, disable it.

5. Gownload HijackThis! (find it on Google) and post a copy of its log file here. Maybe there's some things on there I can spot.

6. If you are doubtful about if you need a process running or not, put it in Google. You'll get links to at least a couple process information sites.

My old PC was a P3 500 with 256 MB of RAM and Windows 2000, but it only hit high processor use levels like that when I used Photoshop or some other huge program. There's definitely something running that shouldn't be. Best fix?

Got a simple solution, delete Windows 2000. Really if you have over 50 percent ram usage all the time you either need to add more ram or you need to get an OS that can properly manage ram. One last thing is that your CPU is only 200MHz faster then the minimum speed for running an NT based OS.

Consider a new use for the computer, or consider a new OS.

You really have three choices here:

A) More RAM

B) Windows 98 SE

C) Linux
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

Either way i'd go with A&B or A&C. Windows 98 SE is in my opinion the best Windows OS EVER!

Guys, guys, we all know that Windows ME (millenium) is the worst version ever created. As for the best. 98 is best for old DOS and windows games, 2000 is for the conformer and business person, XP is for the poser and Media Edition is for the wanta-be Apple person.

I should really downgrade to 3.0. My first OS ever, and still my favorite. =/

You don't need to downgrade. I had a 533 mhz processor running XP and Flash MX 2004 constantly and I consider it my most stable computer I've ever had. Look, just run housecall, turn off background programs not in use, and get some more, high speed ram and a decent video card. I mean, most PC's about that speed can do most anything except gaming. The only reason I upgrade is to game, otherwise I'd hang on to my old systems.
