users lock their own topics

Post by resecnded x » Wed Sep 29, 2010 11:34 pm

hey, my idea for this site is when a certain amount of time has passed on a topic, that the user who created it, can lock it

this is because its kinda getting annoying (well, to me at least) to post messages saying "please close this thread" or renaming the topic into "close this please"

food for thought?

I'm beginning to think it is just someone from another site *ahem*, messing with this site.

Ignore spammers and they go away.

Yes it would. Instead of waiting for your post to deleted. You deleted your self.
When you post "close this thread" or rename "please close this thread".
All that does is invite spammers to thrash the thread before it disappears, If it disappears.

Why don't we set an autolock on old posts? Like Tom's hardware, etc?

How old do you want it to be.
And what if some guy has some very inportant info and it just closed. would this apply for all threads. or not stickies.

6-12 months?
Then a mod can unlock it and change the info?

When you close athread you could have the forums auto post a message like "if you have something important to add pm author," and have a pm button.

Blah Blah Blah.
I like your idea Bush. PM' The User to get some new info on their thread.
But we should be allowed mod tools for our own topics. Not all but some.

Oh, so now its appropriate for you to edit your post to take my response out of context and make me look like an autocratic poop egress? Whatever. I agree we should have more power, but I also disagree, because those powers would be abuse, badly.

Edit: I <3 swear filter
