PS3 "Portable" - The PS3 Luggable

Post by BaronVonShaggy » Mon Mar 22, 2010 8:22 pm

Since I'm not nearly as awesome as the modders here, I wasn't able to make a true PS3 portable. I don't have the technical knowledge to do anything very complicated and I don't really have much patience. So instead I took an old Compaq Portable computer and put my PS3 in that.

Once the keyboard tray is removed, left to right is a 7" LCD screen, a pullout drawer holding a dual controller charter, 2 USB connections and the Bluray drive mounted vertically. It's able to play on the front LCD as well as a second TV or something else with a HDMI input. There is also a headphone output. Once the keyboard tray is attached it is fully portable, or at least as portable as a computer in the early 80's was.

Even though it's not a handheld or small in any way, it was really fun to do something different.

Appreciate the effort and work you put in, but, that is just huge. Otherwise, good job.

Great Job! I would argue that putting a PS3 into an 80's computer is on par with making a true portable. We all got into this to make unconventional things right?

Nice job! Something different is always appreciated.

Now you just need a time machine to go back to the 80's and show them the future of portable computers!

Does the keyboard work? Or is it just for decoration?

The keyboard works for navigating the xmb and dvd/bluray menus but not for games.

And I don't think people in the 80s would believe that video games could look as good and be as complex as they are currently are. If only I did have a time machine so I could set this box next to people playing Ms Pacman in an arcade and see the looks on their faces.
