My zn45 portable....
Moderator:Moderators
It's alright. I'd say it's not too bad for a first portable.
It's really not super smooth and perfectly sanded, but it's okay. I didn't really want to spend a gazillion hours, since just that took me long enough
From left to right: A/V out, Controller Switch (down position is built in controller, up position is external controller), Power Switch (down position is screen and system, up position is system only), button and 4 LEDs for battery charge indicator (the middle LED is broken, but that's okay, since it's the least important one), charging jack, headphone jack, brightness controls, volume controls
As you can see, I still need to put something on to house the cartridge. Any suggestions?
Oh and I accidentally put the Z button on upside down if ya didn't notice, but it's cool. Still works great!
What do y'all think?

Wow! for a first time! Truly much better than mine, still a WIP (http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.ph ... 566#p39566" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) Nice Job. Like the orange color
Re: My zn45 portable....
Moved to News because it's pretty much done.
Nice job. A little more work on the bondo would have helped a ton, but I can understand just wanting to get it done. What paint did you use?

Well that's really the only way to paint a good portable. I think he meant what brand of paint. The usual krylon fusion?

Excellent job, especially for a first try!

Why be so modest? That is an amazing portable! I don't see anything wrong with it.
Chuck Norris is the only person who is man enough to build a Philips CD-i portable.

Now that looks great for a first portable. And love the color. Big orange fan here....Quick question----How in the heck did you make the 4 led battery charge indicator? I could only find the one with 2 leds, one red for low battery and one green for charged battery.

That's awesome for a first portable, and the color is great...
Like you said, more casework would make it better, but that goes for almost anything.

Re: My zn45 portable....

Re: My zn45 portable....
Actually, the led indicator was built into my battery. I used an external battery for a portable dvd player, and the LEDs were already there. I just relocated them with some wire.brandonk318 wrote:How in the heck did you make the 4 led battery charge indicator? I know, it's pretty sweet, but there are just some things I would do differently, or better. Now I know what could make it better, though, in case I do something like this again.pally321 wrote:Why be so modest? That is an amazing portable! I don't see anything wrong with it.
