Wordfilters for definitely...

Post by nitro2k01 » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:39 pm

As some of you may know I strongly oppose wordfilters for curse words as I find them silly and because they don't solve the problem. But that's not what this thread is about... Why not add a wordfilter that is actually useful? Filter these... definitely, definatly, definantly, definetly, definently... into definitely. However, I suggest you leave defiantly unfiltered as it as an actual valid word.

Wordfilters for commonly misspelled words? That's rediculous!

I'd have to say that this a heavily OCD-driven idea. :P No common misspelling will cause you to be unable to understand what anyone is saying.

I feel compelled to disagree.

Seriously though a lot of people have mental problems that make them do things, they really can't control it. Others are jerks.

unfortunately, that little trick doesn't work in this situation. You assume people are going to use all the correct letters AND make sure the first and last letters of the word are kept in their spots.

I didn't notice any difference between the properly spelled and misspelled versions of "definitely" when I read it at a normal pace. :|

"the" and "a lot", on the other hand, are both changed to the proper version by the censor because they're stupid misspellings people sometimes try to do intentionally. (I especially hate "alot", because people insist that it's really the right word.)

Besides, people should learn the proper spelling, rather than becoming so reliant on spellcheck that they don't bother to check it over themselves. What if you misspell a word into another word? (The and thee, for example.)

cheerio
A truly wise man can entertain a thought without accepting it. A fool cannot withhold past judgments but instead closes his mine to new possibilities. Someone who wants to innovate simply needs to forget what everyone says isn't possible.
