Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

I got a new to which will help me make portables, as well as other things.
Here's a video of it running, not me in the video btw :

Unboxing it :
And the relatively small space I will temporarily be using it in :

Nice. Very nice. You'll be able to make some sweet cases and other things in no time.
Can you make it cut variable depths like Ben does for his newer laptops, or is it all or nothing? Care to share how much it was? I think I've seen similar units in the back of Popular Science and Popular Mechanics.

Yes it's a 4 axis , so it cut at different depths. It's a router and a plasma cutter so I can do just about any type of material.
Price....Hmm it's as much as a new car. Yikes....

Hopefully it was more along the lines of a base model economy car and not a fully loaded SUV.
I would make some designs for it that you could sell as nick nacks, like that sign/plaque you cut out in the video. People will buy that stuff up like hotcakes if you make the right things.

Do you operate it with DWG files? If so, could I draw up some DWG files and ship you some material to cut them with, and paypal you for it? I REALLY want a CNC machine, but am too broke for it, but this is the next best thing.

Cheers,

It has been in the works for the last 6 months.
I have had diabetes since I turned 21. At 38 now life is getting tough. Three times I have gone into Insulin Shock in the night and if my wife wouldn't have given me a glucogen shot I would be dead. And since I got diabetes so early I have never been able to get life insurance.
Also I work out of town Mon-Thurs.
So I am trying to possibly start a home business that my wife and kids can take over when the inevitable happens. (Not being pessimistic just realistic, Type 1 diabetics don't have a long life span). And a business where I can be at home under my wife's watchful and loving eyes

Well in that case you had no option. You
had to get the CNC! It's for the kids
I am all for small business - I work in a family business myself and there is just nothing that compares. Working from home is going to be nice compared to having to work out of town all the time. I wish you the best of luck! Any thoughts on where to start shopping around for some business or is that premature? Got to get it assembled and gain some practice first, I suppose.
