Bondo troubles

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Bondo troubles

Post by thewise1 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 1:25 pm

I was practicing using bondo today and I let it dry and it doesn't want to stay on.

I sanded the plastic down but it doesn't want to stay. When I sand ti down it just peels right off.

I wanted to practice before actually doing it so I wouldn't mess up on my real case.

I cut an extra controller in half and tried to put it back together.

Any ideas why it's peeling? I gave it the 20 minutes to cure like it said.

You may try a different grit.
Honestly, you're being pretty vague; what grit are you using in the first place?

If you are using bondo to fill in small bumps it probably won't hold, it needs something to cling onto. Try some fine crack filling filler, like PolyFiller. On my new case, used bondo, then finished off with PolyFiller.

Sorry about being vauge, I was kind of in a hurry.

I used emery cloth, I probably didn't sand it enough. I only sanded it for half a minute.

I have some 60 on my dremel. Could I just put it at low and go over the surface a little bit? Not really sure how long to do it.

I have the fiberglass bondo by the way.

Even though it says 20 minutes, you may want to let it set up for at least an hour.
