Sanding & paintng plastic

Post by Rellizate » Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:12 pm

Hey!

I painted some plastic a little while back, but then after a lot of coats of primer and the colour it still came off really easily. So I thought this was probably because I hadn't sanded the plastic originally so the paint couldn't grip. So I was wondering what grades to use to get it to stick but not be too rough.

Thanks.

So sand with 220 until smooth all over. Then primer, sand, paint, sand, paint (with my layers of both obviously)?

I've gotten extremely good results with Krylon Fusion spray paint. I've never had to pre-sand with it either. Be warned, though, it works best on ABS-type hard plastic.

just sand in between coats of paint if you wait for it to dry, you can just do a coat of paint, wait about 30minnutes then do another light coat and give it a light sand before you put clear coat on it (if you do want clear coat)
