Looking for a project box...

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Looking for a project box...

Post by CronoTriggerfan » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:56 am

...to house a yobo and a PSOne screen for a portable. I'm looking for a fairly simple one that's more or less just an ergonomic box. I've looked for a box to fit these parameters with no avail. So, any suggestions? Thanks! ;)

You can make your own box, to size, easily. Perspex front, perspex (or wood) sides secured in place by perspex (or thick card) triangles and hot glue; base in perspex and screwed in place to the sides. (as I do on my projrects). Simple, and whatever size you want.

No, it isn't expensive. I got A4 (297x210mm) 2mm perspex sheets for about £1.50 each, you can make a project box easily out of 2 sheets (and have bits left over), about £3 ($6).

I know what Polycase is, guys, but thanks for the reminder! :P That case is nice, as are some other ones out there; problem is, they don't accept Paypal, and that's the only method I can pay with currently. That considered, any suggestions?

Making a custom box is still on the table, but I'd rather try and hunt down an existing one, as it'd be cheaper and more timely to use a project box of some sort. Thanks!

www.ebay.co.uk Search "A4 2mm perspex"

One site asking £1.00 per sheet plus £1.45 postage, extra sheets at £1.00 each plus £0.50 each sheet. I buy a few sheets at a time, last time I bought about 8 sheets, so am fine for a while. 2mm is fine, easy to cut, reinforce it and it is strong.

I just remembered I've got about 3 good sized sheets of engraving plastic down in the basement, so I'll make a custom box like you suggested, Bacteria. Thanks for the help, guys!

I know it's the method of a bum, but I got my Polycase cases for free by just calling them and asking for a free sample - they provide the phone number right there on their website. They're friendly and now I get a catalog from them from time to time :P Anybody get their most recent catalog? "Pimp My Box" was the theme - it was hilarious! It was so stupid!
