Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

styrofoam case, is it a bad idea?

I just had an idea last night for a case - styrofoam.
If I make it thick enough to be stable and lined the inside with electric tape , would it work? Would it catch fire easily?

Horrible idea.
And A quick question not worthy of a new topic:
With a styrofoam mold, would the hot plastic dissolve of deform the styrofoam if I was to vac-form it?
Hey, sup?

No. No no no no no. No. No no no...
Styrofoam is weak, soft, and brittle. It wouldn't catch fire easily, but it would not be durable at all. Not to mention the huge mess that comes from working with it...
Use traditional portable-making materials and you'll be happier with the outcome.

What about that one product they were coming out with that you spray on styrofoam that makes it like concrete. They were going to use it to build houses out of styrofoam...

Also, styrofoam easily builds up a static charge which can kill it.

And if it melts due to heat from something on the console, the fumes are poisonous...

I figured there must be something wrong with that idea, or else someone else would have done it already.
Oh Well. Thank you.

A case from just styrofoam, no. But you could make a case mold with styrofoam, then cover it with fiberglass. That would be pretty sweet. I've used Bondo fiberglass kits before, and they're pretty easy.
