WTB - Laptop hard drive

Post by Sparkfist » Wed Sep 13, 2006 2:31 pm

Ok I'm looking for a laptop hard drive something that is at least 15GB (20GB or larger prefered), it has to be an EIDE pin configuration, and also it has to be the kind that are like 1/2" thick. I would like to see pictures to be sure it will fit in my laptop. Oh and it must work, I can't stress this last point too much.

Prices will be negotiated based on hard drive capacity.

I believe I have one that will work, 30gb iirc.

Not entirely sure if it works, but I'll check it out tomorrow when I go home.

I've got a 40 gig. It is currently in a hard drive enclosure & I use it everyday, so I know it works. The one issue is that some of the pins are a little bendy, but if you are very carefull everything would be OK.

I also have a few. One of them I know is a 20 gig. Let me know if all else fails.

for the record, i believe you are looking for a 2.5" drive, the next size up (3.5") is obviously too big, the next size down (1.8") is rare to find outside of specialized electronics

Yes I am looking for a hard drive that is 2.5 inches. I think the size was obvious'y a 2.5" as laptops have only use thsoe sizes.

Jeffslot and xelion, if you can give me quick photos of what they look like I'd really appreciate it. Also does the price of $20-25 enough for the hard drive?

Ok I took the hard drive out of the laptop. What I need is for it to be 1/2" deep/thick. And Jeffslot, as much as I'd love to buy the 40GB you have, I don't know if PATA is going to be compatable with the ATA/IDE interface the laptop uses. If it does I'll send you a check ASAP.

Thank you.

Hmm,

Well if that drive isn't good, I do have another. I've got a western digital 80 g. Still I really don't want money & would prefer to do some kind of a trade if possible.

Hey, PATA is IDE/ATA. Just a change from ATA to PATA to distinguish it from SATA. Exactly the same things, all of 'em (pata, ata, ide (NOT SATA)).
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

I concur, PATA is ATA/IDE/etc (it means parallel ATA, as opposed to the new Serial ATA, get it?)

I'm gonna check if it works here in a minute, and as for the price(if you don't go throuugh with Jeffslot, I think 30 shipped would be fine.

And mine is a 40 gb, not 30 as I told you.

edit: alright, poped it in my laptop and it started perfected, just needs formatted is all. Let me know if you are still interested.

Ok even though that posts are gone, Xellon I'll be sending you a check once I get your mailing address. Thanks for the photos, as I said I need the hard drive to be a slim to fit in the laptop.

Teraflop122, thanks for the info. I thought when they released SATA they also released PATA. Stupid consumer marketing.
