On Modifying the battery charger plug

Post by b52down » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:00 pm

I built a portable SNES--and using a 7.2 volt NiCAD battery to power it. I used the "phone plug" modification from the book, but I do not recommend using this type of plug, since it often caused arcing when I plugged it in--if you notice that most power adapters use a cylindrical plug which eliminates this risk. Fortunately, I did not fry my motherboard.
Only the great ones remember.

Well arching is expacted if from a connection like that. It has at least a positive and negitive and if you have one of those cross the wrong connection you will get acrhing. The only connection that will keep this from happening (hopefully) is the plug that the RadioShack R/C batteries use. Ben has built a few with this style on it. It might be something to look at for an alternitive.
