system speaker?

Post by jeffslot » Sun Jul 31, 2005 3:55 pm

Hi,

I have a spare computer system speaker I would like to use in my 2600 project from ben's book. Is there anything that should stop me from doing this? Thanks.

Please elaborate. I know if is a little big, but it will fit into my case. Is there some other reason I shouldn't use it. Thanks again.

Well I've been experimenting with my Packard Bell, The speaker goes through a 35pin female connector. Plausible and all, but I'm not sure if it is digital, for ONLY computers, or analog for consoles and hacking or so. Anyways, soldering those tinypins are like begging for suicide. Unless you are a soldering whiz, go for it :D

PC motherboard speakers kinda suck if they're the tiny cylindrical piezzo speakers. However, if you're talking about the small cone (regular) speakers, go for it. They sound OK for their size.

Im sticking to the PSone screen speakers. They are nice little speakers. I also have one that I found that is able to produce nice sound, and it looks like it came from a gameboy, but im shure it didnt.

Check the wattage on the back of the speaker. If it is higher than the wattage of the speaker you removed, it isn't going to improve the sound quality much. If you are willing to do this, build a small audio amplifier (with an amplifier IC) to drive it.

Hi,

One more audio related questions. I busted my audio/video jack during de-soldering from my casio ev680. Then I performed an audio / video bypass. Now I just want to make sure that for my audio, I just have to connect both speaker wires to location "Q" on my 4x4 atari square. Does that seem right? Thanks again.

Yes, just connect the wires as if you didn't have the AV jack. All it really does is extend the AV wires outside the TV and shut off the TV power when you plug the cable in, it isn't necessary.
