360 Laptop?

How Much Would it Cost Exactly for Parts and Everything else to make my very own
360 Laptop? And Could I use My 360 Elite to do It? :?:

Ben said it was well over $1000, maybe that was just what he sold it for though.
A truly wise man can entertain a thought without accepting it. A fool cannot withhold past judgments but instead closes his mine to new possibilities. Someone who wants to innovate simply needs to forget what everyone says isn't possible.

One could be built cheaper, around $500 if you try I'm sure, but it also helps very much to have the major components like screen and console on hand already and also to have the ability to pull it off without frying all kinds of stuff first. If this is your first project, seriously, attempt something easier, like an NES, or an N64, X360 has been tried and failed by noobs around the world, learn first, then try something hard.

But do what you will, but don't expect it to be cheap if you fry something, which is likely if you don't know what you're doing.

The main problem with the 360 is it's solder; it uses RoHS compliant solder, which means it is lead free. This is a bad thing for us modders because:
1) It has a really high melting point.
2) It usually doesn't make very good connections.

The second biggest problem is proper airflow. If you have looked inside Ben's Xbox 360 Laptop, it uses a billion and a half fans plus a reworked heatsink and a copper pipe just so the thing wouldn't get a RRoD on him when he closed it up.

In truth, the 360 is a very hard system to accomplish. There have been a lot of noobs out there that have started and never finished this project. And no offense, but I don't expect any more from you.

Lastly, yes you can use your own Xbox 360 Elite, it would be cheaper to build it yourself, but it would probably be best for you to purchase one from Ben. It has a high price tag for a reason.

If I was the OP, I would not purchase from Ben, I would build something simpler, maybe an N64, then maybe one more, like a PS2 or 1, then move on to something more high caliber like this. Of course, I don't care for the 360, so I wouldn't, maybe a PS3 if I was really ballsy.

make sure you get the two torx screwdrivers as well. I've heard different sizes but I think it's 8 and 10.

ben sells his 360 laptops for $5000 I think.

Yes they are, but don't forget the really tiny flathead for opening up the plastic part.

It's around that, but usually more if he makes a custom layout and things to that extent.

Oh, and don't forget a really high powered soldering iron (not a heat gun, mind you.)
The solder on the 360 has a melting point of a whopping 215 Degrees Celsius!!!

to be fair, I was just playing on a scrap 360 and my cheapie little soldering iron melted the solder fine when I added some normal solder to it. what's the wattage on the low ones? 12? 15? seemed to work fine...

Ya, if you add lead too it the melting point drops significantly.
Oh, and I remember saying the exact same thing in another noob thread.
Oh wait, too many to count. Lost track.

You are probably someone from China, based on your bad Engrish, and your sig.

If you happen to be someone normal, make a new thread about it, so you can get your question answered sooner.

That was a grossly generalized comment about not English speakers J.D., not to mention it was unkind and its posted in the wrong thread.

That translates to about a 115 watt soldering iron. Butane iron anyone?
