Powering SNES Mini from Screen

Post by mmoshkowich » Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:56 am

If you take 5 volts from the PSone Screen do you need a 7805 on the SNES?? Please be gentle!

A quick and dirty way to get a regulated power supply is to use the +5 volts coming off the
pocket TV that you’re using for your portable.
1. Connect a wire to the +5 volts source from your pocket TV. This spot is indicated in
Chapter 4. It’s the same place you get +5 volts to run the white LEDs. This wire you’ve
just connected is the regulated power wire.
2. Connect the other end of the regulated power wire to spot 3 on the SNES board as indicated
in Figure 9-10.
3. Connect ground/spot 2 from the SNES to ground on the TV (also indicated in Chapter
4) or to the negative lead of the battery.
It does not mention a 7805! Now I am more confused!!!!!!

So does that mean it doesn't need a 7805???????

if you take the 5V from a 7805 on the screen, you will not need one on the SNES

Ah - he's telling you that the one on the screen is not strong enough for the SNES. This could be true - I thought it gave around 500mA. Since Skyone knows what he's talking about, I'm going to believe him

What this means for you is that instead of taking 5V from the screen, you take 7.2V (or whatever) straight from the batteries, put it in an extra 7805, which then gives 5V to the screen (or you simply use a 7805 on the SNES)
