New forum permissions as per Ben Heckendorn

Post by benheck » Sun Mar 27, 2005 11:38 am

I've had some complaints about spammers, dumb threads etc. While I think the forums should be open to everyone it's also important that we keep things in order.

So I've changed the permissions. They are now as follows:

View/Read stuff: All
New topics/posts/replies: Registered Users
Edit/Delete posts/topics: Moderators
Vote on polls: Registered Users
Create Polls: Moderators

Hopefully this will encourage people to look for answers to things before posting the same kind of questions over and over. Again, here are the basic rules of the forums:

No discussing religion or politics!
No pointless bandwidth-sucking un-videogame hacking realted topics (only I get to create those :)
No flaming other users!
Please keep topics in their appropriate game-specific forums
Reasonably sized avatars and sigs

This forum is growing and of course there's going to be some growing pains, but I think we can all work through this together. Thank you for your time.

yeah, I think that editing should be allowed, it really comes in handy and hasn't been abused much.

I swear! I'm not doing this to prove my point!

Also, polls in non F42 forums aren't that bad. They have been a bit abused in the past, but that is mostly by people that are soon banned anyway.

I think editing should be allowed by members.

Oh, and I don't like the upload avatar thing. That would use up even more bandwidth!

Thank you Ben.

VB_Master, I think Ben can administrate his own forums. If the upload avatar sucks bandwidth Ben will disable it.

Editing is back, deletion is still mod-only.

What's this avator thing about?

Another problem. TinyURL.com isn't working here anymore... used to work perfectly.

If I use the full URL, it works, if I use TinyURL.com, it doesn't work. Grrr!

The img tag only works for certain file extensions. That's why bitmaps won't show with the img tag.
