Strip the wires back and start again, connecting just the power, then the screen and power; if the system powers up, then connect each button contact in turn and test the system turns on after each button connected until you get everything working (this would indicate a short or wrong wiring). It might be that you haven't connected the negative wire to the battery, you connected the common ground wires for the controllers wrongly or have a short. Back to basics, and baby steps - don't give up!

Vague description of the problem is vague.

Check your battery polarity, check to see if the battery's charged, try running the NES off its power adapter.

Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it? If not, get one and learn.

Seriously, you're going to have to be much more descriptive of your problems or start putting up pictures if you want effective help. "It doesn't turn on" is like telling the mechanic "my check engine light is on".

This maybe will help you.
