4.5 mm x 3.8 mm tacile switches

in the nes hand built protect i had 8 tact switches.
in the instructions i was told to break off one lead.
but i broke off the wrong lead :(
do you think the tact swich will still work if i bend the leads to
fit.

So long as you can solder one end of the circuit to two diagonal leads on the tact switch, you'll be fine. :P

And just out of curiosity, why did it tell you to break off a lead? Sounds kinda silly if you ask me...
