Re: My Super Rutenik's (rubik's cube and SNES) project
I can't give good advice, as skill comes with practice. But have your desoldering iron out and try and try again.

Re: NESp from the book
I found everything else at Lowe's. Although the aluminum was a bit too long (6') and the spacers have too large of an inner diameter, I can make everything work for this project. I finalized the wiring, now I have a new issue when powering up. The screen gets very bright and distorts a great deal, t...

Re: My retro duo snesp EDIT: UPDATE!
Thanks, but I might not be actually using it now. I discovered that the plactic was not as sturdy as I thought, and it split in half. That's a lot better than finishing up the project and then having the project split in half while playing it for the first time! Are you going to try the same case a...

Re: NESp from the book
Because I wanted to learn before doing something nice. I've been doing very time consuming projects for a few years now (instrument building) and it's never a good idea to go all out on your first go-round. That's why I purchased a kit from Ben to save me some time, so I can spend more time on figur...

Re: Your Personality Type (INTJ,INTP, etc)
Mostly true, but I am incredibly open-minded. I am not one to stall when a decision needs to be made. INTJ: "Scientist". Most self-confident and pragmatic of all the types. Decisions come very easily. These are the most independent of all types. They love logic and ideas and are drawn to scientific ...
Re: Epoxy
West system epoxy doesn't smell too bad. It's pretty expensive though.

Re: Not meaning to brag but... I got an record deal offer. :D
With that said. Is anyone else here or someone you know signed to a label? Or is anyone else here in a band? Yep. Although I haven't been signed to a label, it's stressful work trying to get onto one. Recording takes a significant amount of focus and even more teamwork amongst the band. You really ...

Re: NESp from the book
Home Depot and Ace Hardware do not have them, I'll be trying Lowe's tomorrow. If Lowe's doesn't have any strips, I'll be purchasing a big sheet and cutting it to size myself. Expensive, but I just want to get this done so I can start on a SNES project.

Re: NESp from the book
Is that referred to in the book? I'll probably try that out tonight, as well as get the sound going. Does anyone know where to locate 1/16" thick aluminum in strips? I still can't locate any. Doh. :( edit: Also, I had a minor issue when I wired the Nintendo up. The screen flickered and I heard some ...

Re: NESp from the book
Wired together. Something caught the soldering iron and I moved in the wrong direction and hit the screen. I killed a pixel or two, luckily no more damage was done. The color seems pretty dull, even at full brightness. Going to do some more testing before I start working on the case. http://i17.phot...

Re: Stephen0205 - first project - playstation 1 :)
You can definitely have something wired together and functioning in 2-3 weeks, but the final filling, sanding, painting process can take a very long time. Especially if you're new to those fields, one screw up can mean starting over in those steps. In instrument building, some consider it a halfway ...

Re: My Super Rutenik's (rubik's cube and SNES) project
If you want responses, post pictures of your progress or ask questions. I am using about an 8 battery pack with about 1600mAH, so I'd say 1800 is pretty good. The PSone screen will consume about 400mAH and I'm not too positive about the SNES, probably around 300-350mAH. You can definitely buy better...

I accidentally touched the two leads from the battery pack together - I'm guessing I killed the batteries?

Re: NESp from the book
Thanks guys! I'm having trouble locating 1/16" thick aluminum, even from places that sell only metal. The only way to get something of that thickness is by buying a very wide sheet, and I don't believe I have the proper equipment to cut aluminum accurately. Even if I can cut it accurately, I would p...
