thanks guys but i actually dont need it anymore. turns out the backlight is not fried, it works fine. i know because i tested it on another psone screen mobo. not sure why it doesnt light up on the other mobo (the transformer looks fine) but ill be using a different screen cause i still cant figure ...

also there is a very small portion of plastic above the transformer which looks like it doesnt have any traces. i cut this off of my zenith screen because its the only way it will fit. Could this have broken my back light? i dont think i tested it after i cut off that small top portion of the screen.

my zenith screen's picture and sound work but there is no backlight. can i just switch the lcd portion of the zenith screen with the lcd portion of a psone screen? (they are both ntsc)

Update!!! Put on first coat of blue paint on the case. I havent painted the sides yet. those are going to be red. thats what i thought. i dont like using nimh or nicd. i would prefer a lithium ion even though they can potentially be dangerous. as long as im not having a dumb streak ill get it right. can anyone give me a link to a step down regulator to get 8.5 volts from 11.1 volt battery pack?
