Re: Sega *Neptune* revealed!
According to the Wikipedia, at least one Sega Neptune was developed and worked. Kind of sad that they launched the 32X on the *same* day as they launched the saturn in Japan. Should have launched both at the same time...

Re: recasing an xbox
From someone who does have experience transplanting, make sure that your metal sheilding stays intact and doesn't slide around a lot. Many people have killed and xbox 1.6 by putting it into a 1.0 - 1.5 case (including me). Doesn't take a lot to resurrect it, but it is a pain. If you go the PICO PSU ...

Re: Safe to grab 12v off of an xbox original?
Not to go off topic here, but the best DVD drive for the xbox is not the Samsung (as popular opinion believes) it is the LG. With one wire soldered you can get the LG to play all media. If you get the LG-8163 and flash it with the firmware from the original LG drive it takes a few more wires but you...

Re: X-Book (XBox Laptop) NOW FEATURING PICTURES!
The switch works base on whether something is plugged into the xbox or not. So if a controller or other peripheral is plugged in then the usb/whatever goes dead. I recommend going with all USB and one DVD dongle (if you need it) and grab a USB to PS/2 Keyboard and mouse adapter (about 10$). I wouldn...

Re: Xbox ultimate cooling + USB mod
Replace the PSU with a Pico PSU and an ATX to XBOX power converter to reduce the size of your PSU area (and keep it cooler). You can then move the external fan to an internal location. Alternatively, you can bust it up with a small water cooling unit instead.... Nice work on the USB, not everyone do...

Re: X-Book (XBox Laptop) NOW FEATURING PICTURES!
Usefull Xbox links - http://xbox-scene.com/articles/hardwire-dvd-dongle.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Read this article and at the bottom they lay out how it could be used with a USB rather than a DVD dongle. I am pretty sure that this method was used in the custom face plates l...

Re: X-Book (XBox Laptop) NOW FEATURING PICTURES!
Jeeeeez that took a long time to read all the way through! Interesting ideas on what you are doing. Here are a few suggestions for what I think you should/could do. First, you will want to swap where your PSU and your mobo go. The Mobo isn't touching the back of the box so it will make it harder to ...

Re: Xbox Slim Worklog
Chipping is always the best way to go. I prefer it to TSOP since it adds considerable funcionality. I also prefer Hotswap to other forms of softmod because it costs $0.00. I hope that you are paying for a chip and not a HotSwap. There is a really decent guide for hotswapping as a softmod, and you sh...

Love quoting myself.. as I mentioned in the original post "1. replacement xbox dvd drive - they are completely interchangable and can be found on the web. I think Llamma is still selling them(?) and they are still on ebay of course. With a replacement dvd drive you just open your xbox, remove the ol...

Re: Old Xbox Isssues
Just because I love brining back month long threads - you don't need to mod your box to use either a PC DVD drive, or replace your xbox dvd drive. You will need one of the following: 1. replacement xbox dvd drive - they are completely interchangable and can be found on the web. I think Llamma is sti...

Re: Xbox Slim Worklog
lord_turkey - you shouldn't try to softmod with a laptop, it would be extremely complicated since your xbox HDD is IDE and your laptop uses the laptop IDE standard... a desktop computer (and it doesn't have to be a good one) is far superior for this effort. Anything built beyond Windows ME/2K should...

Re: Xbox Slim Worklog
In regards to using SATA HDD in an xbox, from what I have read there have been all kinds of problems, even if running it through a converter. From PC IDE to laptop IDE seems to go a lot smoother since they use the same IDE channels and just add the 4 pins for power. You may also want to consider rep...

Re: best XBOX DVD drive and best harddrive swap solution?
Best DVD drive for an Xbox is the LG, if possible the LG 8163B. It is a PC drive that can be flashed with the original LG firmware and with a little soldering even an amateur can get it to work with the xbox (I'm living proof). Because the DVD connector uses odd pin head (2mm spacing instead of stan...

fixing your xbox
Don't use xplorer 360 to do it via windows. It's a pain in the ass since FATX and NTFS/FAT/ETC aren't very good at seeing eye to eye. From the info you provided it seems like you are able to unlock your xbox HDD which is good, very good. You have a chance at saving your box. You can do one of two th...
