Re: General Keyboard/Computer Problems
You don't need any special software to format the card. Insert the card into a USB card reader, copy all your pictures to a folder on the desktop, right click the card in My Computer, click "Format", make sure it's FAT32 and the "quick format" box is un-checked, and click OK.

Re: General Keyboard/Computer Problems
Try another card, or format the one you have using your PC and a card reader. Remember to back up its contents first. No matter how tempting it may be to do a 'quick' format, don't. The card may or may not be bad, so you want the computer to do a more thorough job of checking it than simply writing ...

Re: What should I make out of this vintage 60's chrome toaster?
Refurbish the shell and put the guts of a modern toaster inside. (I just like seeing new stuff in old cases, like the people who drop LS9s into C3 'vettes.) Is that whole upper case actually chromed? If it is, some Coca-Cola and crumpled aluminum foil should get rid of the surface rust. It shouldn't...

Tools -> Preferences -> Subtitles & OST
This will only work for generated text subtitles (separate subtitle file, metadata, or a DVD), not for video files with subtitles that are actually part of the image.

Re: Gameboy - Do not use recharable batteries?
Alkaline batteries push 1.5 volts, most NiMh and NiCd batteries only get up to around 1.2 volts. Their theory might be the lower voltage makes it perform poorly, or run out of juice sooner.
Honestly I don't remember ever having a problem running my Game Boy Color or Advance off NiMh rechargeable AAs.

Re: Who knows stuff about networking?
Hardwire the desktops. Seriously. WiFi is like a big hub, there's no intelligent switching so it acts like one big collision domain. Also, every device is stuck running at the same speed as the slowest device. If you're running everything with a peer-to-peer chat, then there's a good chance the devi...

Re: Sharp Nintendo Televison Help needed
CRTs can and do go bad. I just swapped the one from that dead Classic into the SE/30 and it works like new again! 8) The voltage cutoff had to be lowered dramatically because we maxed it to compensate for the bad tube, but once it went back to where it should be it was fine. It's probably not the tu...

Re: Sharp Nintendo Televison Help needed
Sounds like an internal connection or power supply issue. When working on a tube, be very very careful around the neck and end. They're both relatively fragile parts, and the vacuum plug on the end is extremely easy to break. (If it's broken, the tube is rendered worthless.) Also be very careful aro...

I think it's about trying to figure out what's going on, not cataloging the number of times the site gets broken.

Re: Sharp Nintendo Televison Help needed
You can't get a picture on it from the NES or the tuner? If you look at the tube in the dark, can you see it light up even a little bit when you turn the unit on? If not, you might have to clean some connectors inside, resolder some points, or replace capacitors. Do NOT take this thing apart until y...

An old DOS build of MAME should run, but you'll probably only be able to get games up through the mid 80s to run on it at full speed. You might also have trouble with vector games (Space Duel, Asteroids, etc), especially if anti-aliasing is on.
