Re: N64 Paint Job + LED Swap
As for the controller ports: You can use a dremel to detach them, then paint them, then solder them back on and it should work just fine as long as you line it up correctly. As for the LED, I'd go for the brighter one - it goes through a diffuser that wraps around most of the LED anyway, so a wider ...

Re: Expansion pack soldering
From what I understand, which unfortunately is rather little in the area of an N64, if you swap out the chips on the N64 itself, you can use the jumper pack and the n64 will work as if it had an expansion pack and normal ram in.

Re: My first portable
It is wired 100% correctly. According to Bacteria, it's a faulty pth080000, he's had a couple, I just had bad luck. I ordered another, odds are that this one won't be faulty.

Re: My first portable
Alright, starting to have a problem: I wired everything up, using a 2 pairs of 7.4v camcorder batteries, putting out 7.4v, the PTW0808WAH or wtf it is (I can NEVER remember that name) is putting out 3.3v just as it should, but when I flip the switch on the n64 to turn it on, the ptw0808 thing starts...

Re: Is this screen usable or not?
Look at the traces with your eyes, see how close to the board you can get without running into a component (like a capacitor, transistor, resistor, etc - the close to the screen you can get without components, the better.

Re: Is this screen usable or not?
Trace the composite input to the screen using a multimeter - if you want help, pictures of the entire thing are useful. In essence, it's just a matter of finding put what you can remove.

Re: Has anyone used this screen
I would note the power consumption - 'Less than 3W' seems pretty broad, vague, and rather large for a little screen. I got a 3.5" screen sort of like that, but it used .52W - much nicer. I'm still waiting for it to arrive, but it should work.

Re: Is this screen usable or not?
If the VCR connects to the screen, and the VCR has composite inputs, there is a way to make it work. It just might take a lot of space due to extra hardware...

Re: My first portable
I know how to step the voltage down, I was just hoping I could step the voltage down a little bit more and still get away with it. Thanks, though - I've got my batteries and chargers already.

Re: Expansion pack soldering
Using really thin wires helps, but the more thin the wire, the shorter it has to be to avoid interference on the lines. Like the cartridge slot, solder all contacts on one side of the board, then flip the board over and solder the other contacts. Other than that, just time and patience. Good luck.

Re: My first portable
Yes, that was a rather interesting paragraph.
Question:
If I already have a jumper pack, and not an expansion pack, and I don't want to pay the $10 it would take to get an expansion pack, is it worth it to just go with the jumper? I mean, how many games is the expansion pack REALLY necessary for?

Re: My first portable
Well, had you actually read my posts, you would have discovered that I wasn't planning on using an iPod screen. It was merely used as a size comparison, because it's diagonal is very close to 3.5", which is the diagonal of the screen i will be using. As for powering the 3.3v line with 3v - on the ba...

Re: My first portable
Alright, I ordered the parts a while ago, and I have a question: The speakers I'm using take 3.0v, so I got a resistor to set the pwa8080wah or whatever (you know what I'm talking about) to 3.0v instead of 3.3.... will the n64 still run off that? Can I use that 3.0v to power both the n64 and the spe...

Re: My first portable
Lol - I looked at my iPod screen, I figured 'That's big enough,' - I don't need a massive screen to play n64. And this has a really good resolution for it's size, so I'll have a good quality screen. I just don't know if it's backlit, meaning I'll get to do some... interesting modding if it's not.

Re: My first portable
Wow, triple post. Anyway, I think I'm going to end up going with this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-3-5-Inch-Car-TFT-LCD-Rearview-Color-Camera-Monitor-/270644474217?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f03aaf169" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Because of power reasons. 3.5" should still be...
