PsGroovePIC is where it's at now ..PSGroove's code got ported to the PIC18F2550 chips.. I won't give details 'cause of forum rules related to modchips, but googling should get you to where you want to go
Your wire might not be able to deliver as many AMPS as the N64 needs =/ it's more likely that that's the problem than undervolting it. If you have too many volts - N64 blows up. Not enough voltage - N64 doesn't turn on. Not enough Amps - N64 may work but with problems.
