Re: PS2 Laptop
Hey, I might use a Laptop case for my Mod - so I'll probably use the charger and the battery, but I'm not sure yet.. also, how do heat sinks work - and are they very bulky, cos I'll want my Laptop to be reasonably slim (haha) and is it possible to install other heatsinks not from the PS2 (i.e. buy ...

Re: Coming Soon NES-PC Build Log
Yeah, never try to trim a PC motherboard. The traces are tiny, timing-sensitive and there are lots of hidden layers and even buried vias!

Re: AVR, PIC, or Arduino?
I'm probably going to go with an Arduino, because it looks easy to use and apparently it can be used as a ghetto AVR programmer. Okay, should I get a standard Duemilanove , a Freeduino SB , or a Boarduino ? Also, is the protoshield worth using or is it easier/better to just use it with a normal brea...

AVR, PIC, or Arduino?
I've been wanting to try microcontrollers for a while now. Hopefully I will be able to get something sometime soon but I'm not sure what to get. I thought I wanted an AVR but I'm not sure. There's the PIC, and the AVR, but I'm also considering the Arduino. It has a lot of fans and looks easy to use....

Re: IDE/SATA to Arduino
But it IS possible to connect an SD card. Trust me, when dealing with microcontrollers 2GB is a huge amount.

You probably knocked one loose, not killed one. I don't think they're that delicate.

I got pissed off when you said you were quitting. This is an awesome project, keep going.

Re: PAL N64 with DENC-NUS encoder & VDC-NUS chip: size differs?!
The pinout is different but if you have the pinout handy it shouldn't be THAT hard to adapt. But agreed, PIF swap is a better idea.

Re: Replace video encoder chip in PAL n64 to make it rgb ok?
You can, but it's probably easier to do the PIF swap. Just for fun I desoldered the PIF chip from my fried board and soldered it back on.
The PIF swap is where you swap in a PAL PIF chip to an RGB capable NTSC N64, by the way.

Re: Feasibility Study: Making a Dedicated GBA cartridge
The usual technique is to replace the ROM chip on a game, but in your case it may be better to have boards made. You may still need special chips, though. My knowledge here is quite limited.

Re: Trying to design home console-ized PSP
Hey all. As silly as this sounds, I have a growning interest in trying to make a PSP home console. I love my PSP, but now that I am not traveling on the subway or bus anymore, I don't seem to play it much anymore. When I do play, I'm usually sitting in bed or on the couch, which is a little uncomfo...

Re: NeoGeo into maybe a portable
The first two don't ship to Canada, and the last one isn't cheap enough.
Sorry, but only people who know me in person know how cheap I really am.

Re: RGB or S-Video to RCA Composite Video Converter
An AD725 will not make the conversion any better. What an AD725 does is encode RGB to s-video and composite. Unfortunately there is really no way to make composite better. If you build an AD725 encoder you can improve it a bit with a luma trap, but it's not a world of difference.

Re: Gamcube Component out
How do I get component video out on a gamecube without the digital AV out port? You can't. Okay, let me explain it a bit. On the revisions of GC with no port, most of the circuitry was taken out, and there are DEFINITELY no pads to connect a jack. Second, the digital AV port outputs digital RGB whi...

Re: NeoGeo into maybe a portable
I wouldn't use an MV-1C, because the cart sticks straight out the top and it would be insane to relocate that double-connector slot. An MV-1B is pretty small and the cart is horizontal. And yes, a laptop with built-in arcade style controls would be awesome. And again yes, I would LOVE to consolize a...
