Does unscrewing the back panel to clean the fans really void your warranty? Does your laptop have one of those 'Void if removed' stickers on the backplate? Cleaning the fans out would really help with with the overheating/noise issues, more so than your current makeshift methods

I don't own a 400 XPR but based on its specification, I'd say it was a good choice Just make sure you take it slow so you don't chip/melt the plastic.

Or you can use the +12V from the power switch/fan assembly, easier to access/route wires IMO
