I'll make you a benchtop PSU.
It's useful to have a source of different voltages for testing different things. I've made a benchtop power supply out of a computer PSU, and I have three of the same PSU's left over. I don't have any more banana jacks, but I can buy some more if anybody is interested in one of these. Here's the PSU...

Re: 364 Worklog
Oh, geez, THAT'S what you're talking about. I guess I didn't make it clear enough that I'm doing the RAM swap.
In that situation, I am pretty sure not all the pins need be wired. But adding an expansion pack, not doing the ram swap - yes, definitely wire all of them.

Re: Any lists of mods you guys have I can do?
I actually completed a bunch of Dreamcast mods about a week ago. You can check 'em out here: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=30659&p=440676#p440676" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Here's my opinions on the mods I did: Reset button - Really, really useful. Re: 364 Worklog
Well, you don't have to hardwire the jumper pack. But if you do the RAM swap, it needs a jumper pack to work. It saves a lot of space to just hardwire it.

Re: 364 Worklog
It looks like Daftmike got it to work without wiring everything.

ihakr: This is a dead motherboard. The blue wires are where I accidentally cut a couple traces and had to repair them. This i snot the motherboard I am using for this project:
Hail: On the jumper pack, though, about half the traces are connected to nothing, right?

Re: 364 Worklog
Suuuure. :P One interesting thing I noticed this morning, though, was this. I first saw it on the rev.3 motherboard I am going to use for this portable, but it's on my two dead rev.3's as well. http://i54.tinypic.com/mj6dz9.jpg See the silvery-white dots between the RAM and jumper slot? Those are so...

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
Heh, thanks, Biased. I suppose a non-afternoon project is one that takes more than a few afternoons. :P Also, if I need to figure out most of it myself, it has more significance to me. With this, other people figured out all the connections that need to be made. I just followed their instructions. W...

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
I found my Dreamcast, and after finding out discs could be burned for it I realized how awesome it it. So I added a VGA port, SD card slot, reset button, and overclock switch. Spewing wires everywhere before closing it up (which literally took at least a half-hour on its own): http://i55.tinypic.com...

Re: 364 Worklog
Minuscule update. I had a little spare time today so I mounted the A, B, and C buttons.
Don't expect this to be a regular thing, now.

Re: Reset switch methods.
Cycling power quickly is almost never a good idea in any electrical system, so I wouldn't go with that. I have put a reset button in my Dreamcast using that pad and here's what I can tell you. When I press it, the Dreamcast does a nice reboot; it's as if I just powered up the console. When I hold it...

Here's the guide for the low-battery indicator:

But the schematic came from the datasheet for the audio amp chip. It's the TDA2822N.

Awesome, Thanks Hailrazer. I was thinking about making a PS2 portable and was afraid of the high current draws.

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
Cousin gave me a DS lite after dropping it a few too many times. Both the hinges were broken and the ribbon cable was ripped. Hopped on here and found it'll run if it thinks the backlight is there. So I found the backlight contacts and put a 2.2k resistor on (any higher didn't draw enough current; a...
