Re: Modded Gameboy Color, not much special....
I believe I painted the very edges of the inside, so that you could not see the original color through the edges of the battery cover. Other than that, I left it bare.

Re: Universal Wireless Video Interface (HD Edition - Research)
Thanks! The screen is really nice, 1280x800, 5.6". The PPI is insane! The power draw varies, I need to do more testing. At 720p resolution, I can get 60 or 70 feet of range through a single wall, quite a bit better than it does at 1080p. My rough estimate of the draw is 600-700ma at 5v. I am sure it...

Re: Modded Gameboy Color, not much special....
For painting, I sprayed the front of the buttons silver, and before the paint dried at all, I wiped it on a piece of paper towel. That wiped off the front face of the button, but left the silver paint in the grooves. I had to use my fingernails to chip off what was left on the sides. I do not know w...

Re: Universal Wireless Video Interface (HD Edition - Research)
I am already working on a PC/360 WVI using that very same product, with a 5.6" screen I have. Here are two terrible phone camera pics I snapped, the first shows it playing Portal, the second shows the size of the WiCast receiver board compared to screen. http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash...

Re: Gameboy pocket modding
Hah, sorry for not being clear. The polarizer layers in the DS are glued to the LCD panel itself! If you use a thin craft knife or something, you can peel it off the glass. Those sheets that were moving freely behind the LCD, keep those. They are light diffusers, they make the backlight look much mo...

Re: Gameboy pocket modding
I still lurk here! :) The problem is not destroying the reflective layer, you do not need it anymore, you are trying to remove it completely. The problem is, it can be hard to remove it perfectly (No adhesive left behind) without hurting the LCD ribbon cable. If you remove the polarizer+reflective l...

Re: Gameboy pocket modding
Be really, really careful stripping the reflective layer off the back of the LCD! It is easy to mess up the ribbon cable. What I usually do is just pull off the entire polarizer from the back, reflective layer and all, and then replace it with a new sheet of polarized film. Bibin and me used to work...

Re: 3DS Price Cut
I agree with you, and in that sense, I think the Vita has a critical flaw in that they are basically marketing it as "Playstation 3 on the go". It perplexes me that they are not running some variant of Android on this thing, access to that marketplace would make it completely irresistible. Of course...

Re: 3DS Price Cut
I don't think this has anything to do with bad sales, 3DS sales figures actually look pretty healthy. It is almost certainly in response to the PS Vita only being $250, and appearing to be much better hardware.

Re: WTB: GameBoy Pocket LCD Screen
Just an FYI, there is basically nobody selling these. There are quite a few people after the LCDs (To replace ones they broke while backlighting), but nobody has just LCDs lying around. You would be best off buying used GBPs themselves.

Re: Hacking Video Game Consoles: Turn your old video game system
It is not worth buying these days, unless you really want a paper reference. There is better, more up to date information on this forum, and the book has some serious errors in some of the projects, ones that will result in non-working portables.

Re: who shound i need to report to if i get people trolling me?
I have a long history of being very outspoken in my dislike for other people, perhaps unfairly at times. In this case, I am so flabbergasted by what appears to be one of the most sincerely blithe people I have ever seen, that there is no possible response. If you feel that you are wasting your time,...

Re: GBA SP in a Game Boy Pocket case?
I have done it, but it is not as cool as you would think, and I was not too happy with the compromises that had to be made. The motherboard simply cannot fit into the GBP case unless you do extensive case modification, board trimming, and a bug chunk of bondo work to clean it up. I would suggest doi...

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
Really? How old was it? I know for sure that all the new LG chargers do that, because all the modern LG phones require those pins to be bridged to go into charging mode. I just had to mod a generic USB charger myself, you see, specifically for an LG phone.
