Re: Gaming computer (for a friend)
Here's what I would do, even though with shipping it might be a little over budget. Foxconn FlamingBlade GTI LGA 1366 - ~$180 Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz - ~$280 OCZ Reaper HPC 6GB (3 x 2GB) - ~$114 BFG Tech GeForce GTX 260 - ~$170 Case - ~$60 Power Supply - ~$70 Hard Drive - ~$90 DVD Burner -...

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Huh, should've asked here first. I'm already redownloading, but it wasn't .GCF files; specifically, it was water_dx80.pcf.
EDIT: Just so everyone knows, the download speed has picked up significantly So if you still want to download it, you might as well try.

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Well I don't think I'll be able to play with anybody this weekend. Apparently a skin pack got F-ed up and I need to reinstall the game... which normally would be fine, but the Steam servers are really busy with the free game and all. The ETA is actually getting longer. Did this happen ...

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Where's my update?
Steam said that TF2 was updated this morning, but no dice. But now, in the loadout screen, and the weapons are purple checkered squares.

Re: My First Ever Successful Project. (Not Electronic)
@Bic: That's a pretty inventive way to do rapid fire. I bet nobody wanted to play with you. I made a "semi-automatic" rubber band gun when I was younger. I took a stake that was about a foot and a half long, and I nailed 4 clothes pins down; one for each side. I put little nails on the other e...

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Well that all depends on the card, monitor, and consoles. But you're right, a TV would probably be the easiest.

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Or you could add a ~$50 TV card to it
You know, the whole "two birds, one stone" theory.

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
That's how my laptop is too. You probably have Intel GMA
My suggestion would be to build a cheap gaming rig. If you don't go for top of the line stuff (think nVidia 96 or 9700) you could put one together for about 5 or 6 hundred dollars.

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Make sure you pre-load it, that way you can just fire it up tomorrow and not have to worry about it.
Does the update come out on Thursday? Or is it a little later, like Saturday?

Re: TF2 Sniper and Spy updates
Oh, BTW, it's a Sniper vs. Spy update.
Oh, and TF2 is free to play this weekend through Steam. And it says it includes the new update, so only 2 more days. Maybe the spy will get a ballistic knife.

Re: Home security/surveillance questions
You could also take a cheap digital camera (I used a CVS Pharmacy one time use one), remove the IR filter, and add some IR LEDs. Then you don't need to worry about attaching a screen and batteries, because they should come with the camera

Re: TF2 Sniper update
So I guess the Razorback doesn't work very well... And the dead ringer is a cheap trick, but how does it work? Does it go off when you're first shot? Because it'd be pretty obvious if you shoot a spy and he instantly dies. Or does it activate with a standard right click? It just doesn't ...
