Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
So, I just got a Kindle and want to automate the downloading of news feeds to it. I wanted a PC to turn on when I woke up in the morning, download the feeds, transfer them to my Kindle, then shut off. First problem: The spare PC I put together for this does not support automatic startup in the BIOS,...

Re: Irrational fears
I'm not afraid of heights, I'm only afraid of what would happen if I fell. XD My imagination can get pretty active when I'm standing near a ledge. But I'm not afraid of being up that high at all.

Re: Question regarding cart slot relocation.
How long are your wires? A lot of people say they should be no longer than 6 inches.
This is a silly question, but do you have the jumper pack in? I've had a lot of scares by forgetting that little detail.

B_M: You're right, it will have mono built-in sound, but the headphone port will be stereo. Minor updates. I have been busy with school, but I now have a deadline - January second! I am going to enter an Instructable on this portable and enter it into the Epilog Challenge to try to win a Zing laser ...

Re: Home made guitar amp overdrive
You always want to put the volume control on the input, never the output. You do use a voltage divider like you have there, but have the top pin come from the guitar, the middle pin go to the amp input, and the bottom pin to ground.

Re: Light sensors
A dark sensor? EMSL has a great simple one:

This circuit also works with a photoresistor (CDS cell) but it's best with a phototransistor.

Re: Wireless N64 controller?
I would dig out my old stuff, but there's nothing to get out. All I did was buy the Xbee transceivers, I never got further than that.
EDIT: Whoops, other Mario.

Yes, that is correct. Progress! Screen and speaker holes cut out of the front: http://i51.tinypic.com/6zpuea.jpg I bent some brackets out of shielding and soldered them to the back. I will be adding a triangle on the side for support, too: http://i56.tinypic.com/mhpzmc.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/ver...

Re: A Battery Question (3.5" eBay screen)
Those screens will work just fine off of 7.5v, and yes, there is a solder point on the board. Look underneath the board, and solder to a point on the 12v line.

Re: Good Soldering Iron/Station & Multimeter?
I'm not sure about the iron. I've always used the $10 RadioShack one. I bought an extra tip that I ground down to a very fine point, and use that one when I'm doing fine soldering. But, if you'll give RadioShack another chance, their $35 digital multimeter is pretty good. It's lacking a couple featu...

Re: I told myself I wouldn't make a thread for this one, but...
ANYWAY, I barely understood the last page of postings in this thread, but I'll try to answer the questions presented here. I am using a multidirectional tact for the c-buttons. The "cap" for the c-buttons will be yellow, I just didn't color it in the model. The A and B buttons will probably be grey....

That is very attractive indeed. That case must have cost a fortune, though, with their cutting rates! How much was it?

Using a PSP Joystick with 3rd Party Controllers
http://i56.tinypic.com/219wcja.png If you have a 3rd party controller that uses four wires for the joystick, chances are you can use a PSP joystick with it. No, I can't tell you how to wire it. But, look at how the joystick is wired to the stock controller, use your brain, and figure out how to wir...
