Re: Cleaning old consoles?
isopropyl alcohol (not rubbing alcohol though many isopropyls are referred to as rubbing alcohol by staff of stores and stuff, as many of those have scents and other things in them that leave a film) of 90% and higher works wonders on removing marker without damaging the type of plastics consoles ar...

electrification project of my computer desk / workbench!
I had gotten a really sturdy really big coffee table from a yardsale for $10 years ago, and have been using it as my computer desk and also workbench for years. I got really sick of having power strips and wires laying all over it. I used to be a greenhorn electrician like 10 years ago, so I know qu...

Re: NES mod questions (power and regulation, cartridge slot etc)
Thanks for the answer on the 0.1" pitch connector issue. that will help with future projects for sure! I want the best video out possible within reason, and this circuit was recommended to me by a very technical friend over the simple resistor and transistor video amp circuit as being a decent amoun...

Re: peltier junction
the basic rules of thumb for peltiers: 1) if you go beyond their capacity, they become very efficient heaters of both sides of themselves. 2) for every watt you want to cool, you will need another watt of cooling capacity beyond that (60 watt cpu? 120 watt cooling for peltier!) 3) you must make ever...

Re: Vintage portable TV project
(oops deleted that image from my imageshack account) this? Do you want to upgrade the picture tube to an LCD? if so that will make everything massively easier. If you do, just measure the viewable area diagonally (from bottom left to top right) of the current screen, add like a quarter inch (youll g...

Re: Poor man's case (No oven or machine) help?
there are a lot more ways to make a good case without those resources. Just off the top if my head, here are a few: they made the statue of liberty by making wood forms and hammering copper around the forms with an assortment of forming hammers (ball peen and such), that would be a great way of maki...

I gotta admit I'm envious of lovablechevy, and very much don't like being overweight, but with health problems like mine, even doctors tell me I'm doing good to still be alive (I'm in year 9 of the usually fatal within 10 years MSA , two forms of arthritis, and other bad health problems) I am also, ...

WTB several authentic nes dogbone controllers(broken is ok!)
First off establishing my rep. I don't buy or sell things much, when I do it is almost entirely on 2cpu forums. there, they use the feedback system called heatware. http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=41793" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I also have bought a few things on ebay over t...

Re: Pictures aren't working.
I dunno about photobucket's auto code generator, but if you find the link to the actual jpeg itself (usually called direct link) and then put [ img ] and [ / img ] (without the spaces I inserted) at each end of the URL, it should work nomatter where it is unless the server has anti-leech code in it ...

Re: black triangle on early model trinitron
actually, with a couple precautions CRTs are not that dangerous to work with / work on. just unplugging, and then shorting the metal clip behind the flyback "plunger" cover to the crt frame with a couple large screwdrivers (making great care not to touch any metal including on the screwdrivers when ...
