Re: A question about diodes

First, a diode allows voltage to only go in one direction, and generally doesn't care what the voltage is. Amperage, maybe, but not voltage. They are generally used as circuit protection, not voltage regulation. A voltage regulator is used to cut down supply voltage to a desired voltage. For instanc...

Re: Reducing bmp size.

I got 32.4Kb, still working on it though.

Edit: Seems that's the lowest I can get it :( Sorry. That's at 4-bit grayscale. I can get it tiny if you're cool with no color information at all.
Edit2: 28.3, with color.

Re: Portable-Palooza 2009 - Voting Was Influenced

Well... Nice to see I have so much support. Really guys, feels good - I haven't been in the scene but for a year. Seriously though. Stop it. I shopped my "portable" because it didn't even work. I used NESticle to play Kung Fu on my PC, took a screenshot, shopped it to look like an LCD, and rubber-st...

Re: Portable-Palooza 2009 - Voting Was Influenced

Sheesh.

You know, guys, this has really got out of hand - this was never supposed to go this far, "lazer" (ME, SS, you prick) was never supposed to win, and it was all to be funny in the end anyway.

So... I apologize for getting everyone to vote, and for entering that piece of crap.

Re: Sound died.

Driver conflict? If you've got a sound driver for the USB speakers, and a sound driver for the internal audio hardware, might be conflicting. Try going into device manager and uninstalling ALL audio devices, including your internal, and reboot - let it find the onboard audio hardware again, see if t...

Re: desoldering heat sinks?

Go to Radioshack, get a solder sucker bulb. Desoldering bulb. Whatever  It's what I use to get soldered heatsinks off, and other parts where an obnoxious amount of solder was used. Or. you can take your dremel and grind the tabs down - it's not like you're going to be using them. Heat up the so...

Re: Whats more efficant?

uhhhh ya i dont have one sooooo ya... You cannot make the 7805 output higher than its regulated voltage. If it could do this, they would not call it a 7805, they would call it an adjustable linear regulator, which it is not. A 7808 can't be anymore than 5 bucks down at your local Radioshack, if eve...

Re: Kids these days...

I'm only 15, but I still love old movies. The other day I heard a kid ask "What's the lion king?" Not that I would consider that movie all that old (now that I think about it... it's over 10 years old now, isn't it?) but yeah, it's considered a classic and is part of any parent's video repertoire t...

Re: Whats more efficant?

Its not a 7805 its a chip with caps and resistors? Can a 7808 be haked to ooutput 7-7.5v? I would assume you're talking about a PCB with capacitors and resistors on the board, along with ... some sort of switching regulator? Or maybe it's linear, who knows. Take a picture so we know what exactly we...

Re: having major ram issues-need help!

I agree about the ancient status on this machine, but the good news is, it's unlikely you killed the board. Typically, a motherboard will just use whatever it's maximum rated capabilities are - if you install three different speed modules, all modules will perform at the slowest speed of the bunch, ...

Re: That one song that's impossible not to get into

. And, whoever said "disco stick" did you mean LoveGame? It's not bad, but not too good either. "Let's have some fun this beat is sick, I want to take a ride on your disco stick, don't think too much just bust that dick, I want to take a ride on your disco stick" I think that's what you were thinki...
