Re: Gaming PC Build Log

What's the clear purplish thing sticking out on the back plate above the red eSATA/USB ports on the motherboard? You might want to see if buy.com or tigerdirect have the processor you want on sale, many times one or both will mirror newegg's sales and still have stock. Also, Micro Center if you've ...

WTB: NES or NES shell in good condition

As stated in the title, I'm looking for a cheap NES, or just the casing from one, in good shape. Needless to say, I am going to be doing a PC-in-a-NES project. Hit me with whatever you've got!

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.

Bought a cheap 12.5mm f/1.3 Computar lens designed for CCTVs and the like. Even with the appropriate adapter it wouldn't focus to infinity on my camera, only up to about a foot away, so today I shaved down the rear of the lens with my dremel. This way it can sit closer to my sensor and focus to infi...

Re: Gameboy - Do not use recharable batteries?

I know NiCd batteries (which were the commonplace rechargeables at the time) didn't work well at all with my Gameboy Color. NiMH AA's work fine though in mine.

Re: what's the dumbest thing a non-hacker has said to you?

New guy at work has proven to be an unending source of facepalm moments for me. He told me he wants to work in the electronics department because he's the biggest electronics geek I've ever met. (Extremely doubtful, considering those of you I've met IRL). "Are you more interested in the hardware or...

Parts harvested so far: a few EEPROMs, an EPROM, some microcontrollers, Analog Devices D/A converters , assorted surface mount components, assorted through-hole discrete components, and a couple dozen DIP sockets (only a couple of which I've completely ruined http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14073868/pictur...
