Re: Anyone else have trouble desoldering 60 pin connector?
I've managed to saw the connector off a few NOACs without damaging the connector or the board, but it's kind of hard. I've also tried cutting the pins with an Xacto knife, which worked, but took forever.

I don't think any of these are in the NES sticky: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36161" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=39072" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=379...

Re: GARAGESALES 2008-20XX!
I got a boxed Atari 7800 with four boxed 2600 games (Football, Galaxian, Gyruss, and Starmaster) for $20 at a flea market yesterday. The RF out plug on the back of the 7800 was broken, but I replaced it and it works fine now.

Re: How many people succeeded the first time making a portable?
I finished my first NESp without frying anything, but the screen broke a few hours later and I had to replace it.

Re: John (jdmlight)'s portable NES!
Using the floppy drive connector isn't necessarily recommended. I think Ben is the only one who has made it work successfully (many others have tried). Apparently it is really hard to get it to line up correctly and the spacing isn't perfect. I'd also recommend the Game Genie. I used floppy drive c...

Re: John (jdmlight)'s portable NES!
I used a 7.2 volt battery with a 7805 in my second NESp and it works fine, so I don't think you should have a problem with using 6 cells.

Re: Genesis 2 cart slot questions
I checked on my Genesis 2 and I think you should be able to connect it to pin 2 of the middle chip in your first picture (the one right behind the cartridge slot).

Re: Dimensions and pictures of various console motherboards
Added Atari 5200 (2 port), Sega 32X, Sega Saturn (model 1), Sega Dreamcast (manufactured in 2000), Nintendo GameCube (later version with no separate power regulator board), and Sony PlayStation (SCPH-5501).

Dimensions and pictures of various console motherboards
There doesn't seem to be a compiled list of console motherboard dimensions anywhere, so I figured it would be a good idea to make one. Here are pictures and measurements of most of the consoles I have. Note that the "unmodified" measurements usually include controller ports and such. The cut-down di...

A 30 watt soldering iron should be fine. I use a 15/30W one from Radio Shack.

Re: need help deciding what to do first
I would recommend making an NOACp (NES-on-a-chip portable). NOAC's (like the Yobo and Retro Entertainment System) are very small, have low power requirements, and at least in my experience, are pretty hard to break.

Re: question about casio ev-880
I have what I think is the RCA equivalent of a Casio TV-880 and it's pretty terrible. It's kind of usable with an NES, but I've tried it with newer systems (like an N64) and I can barely make out what's on the screen. I'd recommend getting a better screen if possible, but I suppose if you already ha...

Re: Intec/HipGear screen/mobo dimensions?
I think there may be a few different versions of the screen, though. I seem to remember seeing pictures of ones where the board was larger. I'm almost certain all the PS2 Intec screen pads are the size I mentioned, though, as both of mine are the same, and the Xbox Hip Gear screen pad I have is also...
