Re: Question 2, probably not. First, the fan blades will be shaped for best moving air in the intended direction of rotation. Second, the multiple coils are probably configured so that self-start for the DC motor works best, if at all, only in the intended polarity. Answer: Flip that fan around phys...

Re: DC time delay circuit
Need some help on this one. I need to delay a power on for 4 seconds. Now I know I can do this with a simple 555 timer and a relay but I would like to not have to use a relay. The voltage line will be 5V at around .5 amps. Thanks Oh and a RC circuit won't work. This is to help prevent power cycling...

You can wire up the device so that when a + voltage from the charger is present, the battery --> game connection is cut off and the voltage from the charger is the only thing that is presented to the drain represented by the game boards and screen. Isn't that exactly what a transistor does? Could I...

Sorry to bump, but just wondering if I could get a definitive answer on how much damage this does to the battery. I can only seem to find FUD or confusion on this subject. The battery manufacturers say not to. So you shouldn't, in my view. But you can get around it by the wonder of semiconductors. ...

Nope, they're the disc-shaped ceramic variety. I was thinking I might be able to do some grave-robbing and take a capacitor from a broken PCB in my collection. Is there any reliable way to test the, uh, capacity of a capacitor? I've got a multimeter, but I don't know if it will do the trick. Can't ...

Well, Consider finding one of the old 486==> Pentium chips. Here's what they look like, but if you're careful you should be able to find one for less than $10: eBay Its only an upgrade from 66mhz to 83mhz, but the Pentium architecture is hugely important. Then, go download the Scitech Display Doctor...

All right, the lamp is lit! I've got everything working now, but I haven't tried adding the capacitor and resistor... mostly because i don't have them. I do have smaller capacitors (22uF, I believe?), but I'm guessing you can't put them in series to increase their effect the way you could with resi...

Can I ask what this will do to the mod? Will it remove those annoying vertical stripes on the screen? If so I'll give it due consideration. Also... I've been able to install the rocker switch without too much trouble, but I'm having trouble installing an indicator light. I've been able to get the l...

Thanks! I got similar information from another forum, although the person there recommended that I use a double pull double throw switch. Right now I've got the console MacGyvered to run the moment it's plugged in, but as soon as I get a replacement switch, that will change. The original switch _is...

Re: The ColecoVision power switch switch
The ColecoVision's power switch is the source of many of the system's woes. Twenty five years after it was manufactured, the lubrication inside the switch has dried up, making it difficult to flip on and off, and often resulting in issues with the games themselves. The obvious solution would be to ...

Yes, I was thinking about cleaning up the other thread, with links to this one, but I didn't know if it was necessary. I was just waiting for a mod to chime in... Hey Gonzo, I didn't realize until yesterday that you made the NOAC in the light gun mod. That's so awesome! Seeing that on HackADay a fe...

Here's the reply I posted in the other thread. I think its very courteous of you to move everything here. Perhaps after this thread is going, we ought to go back into the other and delete our posts about your project, so that someone late to the other guy's thread does not think your project is his ...

Done! Here's the final wrap up. Nice job. I'd guess when you're motivated enough you can take a grinder to some of the risers in the case, flatten / shorten the buttons and D/Pad and shave enough space that you won't have to rely on a hot glue bridge. I'm psyched that the original NES controller bo...

Did you cut the traces leading back from the 7805 to the original 9v -> 12v etc., power components on the SNES board? Is it possible you've got back current flowing because of the way you're introducing power and its creating a resonance in those, now vestigial, circuits that, say on charge of a cap...
