FDS Repair?
Farting around with a friend's Famicom Disk System. When I put the disk in, I get the loading screen, and the head moves towards the center of the disk. Then, it stops. That's all it does. I never get an error message, or any other head movement. Anyone have any experience with these? I've been told...

Re: Questions regarding upgrades to a Game Gear screen
There's not much you can do to the GG without doing that tv mod. The GG screen is fairly unusual, and it's taken quite a bit of reverse engineering to get anywhere with it. I know there's at least one guy out there with kits, but that's really all that you can do for the screen.

Re: [gamegear] Caps replaced, good soldering, still washed out!?
You aren't going to get "night and day" improvement on the GG screen by replacing the caps. Even at its best, it's a poor screen that has always looked washed out. You can get a bit more improvement with an LED mod, but for the improvement you're looking for, it sounds like you want to do a total sc...

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
Just moved to a new apartment in an old house. It's got very few outlets, and I can only split them so much before I start tripping breakers. Since that involves dealing with the other tenant to fix, I decided to make all my game consoles use the same AC cord so I only had to run one cord to the ent...

Re:
I'd try replacing the caps in the GG. I doubt it's gonna work any better on batteries. You wanted advice, yet you're ignoring it? I am sorry I bothered lugging the computer around town to find internet so I could post. Considering the headphone jack's not even on the main board, no, I doubt very mu...

Re: Game Gear Rechargeable Battery
I don't have a circuit for charging NiMHs in a GG. I think you'd almost have to build a new power board for the GG to do that with the original jack, and I've got no help for you there. I don't know nearly enough about charging circuits to figure that one out. Personally, I think you'd be better off...

Patient while I had some issues getting the parts to do a GG, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about the transaction. I was not aware that he was not satisfied with the work I did until FOUR MONTHS after the fact. In addition, rather than contact me, so I could have resolved it in ...

Congrats on a working portable! The GC's not an easy one to start with, so you should feel good about that. I hope to see more work from you.

Re: Computer Charge Help!
I do power jack repairs for my local computer repair shop. My boss charges customers a flat rate of $65 plus parts. I'd say it's worth that much, at least. Call a local shop in your area and see how much they'd charge you.

Rekarp was working on a slimmed down PCB. Might be worth firing off a PM to him. I seem to recall he'd actually had a board printed that he wired up and tested.

With the surface mount, I found that I had to add wire anyway to make some of the caps fit to the contacts. The radial caps already have the long legs on them. It's just a matter of convenience, I think.

Re: I'm new here... and i must fix my gamegear!
I can sit down and do a full cap replacement on a GG in about thirty minutes. It's not all that difficult, just repetitive. Caps are cheap, if you buy from an electronics supplier and not just Radio Shack. For the time/parts, it's usually worth it to repair a GG.
