I bet it is using GBA internals of some kind, with a peg to keep GBA games from being inserted.

You can cut the slides on normal analog stick potentiometers, and use pull down resistors to bring them low enough to trigger digital switches. I was a developer edition backer on Kickstarter, the early units they sent out were pretty bad, controller wise. The retail units are a lot nicer, though, definitely an awesome emulation box.

Almost certainly the power cord. See if you can borrow another one, and if it works, they are pretty cheap on eBay.

Unplug it and wait 24 hours. The N64 power supply has a fuse in it that will auto-reset.
