Yeah, I read where some people had luck getting a free replacement, others not. Mine is a third-party adapter so it wouldn't apply anyway.dragonhead wrote: you do know apple is replacing those for free due to fire hazard, right?

Not a professional opinion, but it sounds like your wavebird idea should work. Convert N64 wire to GC transmitter - convert GC receiver to USB. If you could somehow use the guts from an existing wireless USB controller that might work too. My question though is: what's going on with the built in emu...
