Those components are necessary. Sometime soon I'll post pics of a screen mobo in which I relocated that entire part (it contains the audio amp).

It's a nice portable, but you installed the shoulder buttons incorrectly.
The nut with the teeth can be unscrewed and used to hold the button to the case from the inside.

OK here's what you want to do: From left to right, the pins of the controller port are +3.3v, data, and ground. Actually, you may have wired it correctly. IIRC if you turn the PS1 screen back on, it's too much of a load and the N64 resets.daguuy's evil twin wrote:4. Screen cut off switch. Apparently I wired it wrong because it also cuts off the N64. No big deal.

There is a lot of grounding surrounding the N64 board. You can cut that off with minimal rewiring. The board can be made even smaller by cutting off the traces connecting to the cart slot and wiring the cart slot directly to the RCP . That's what Sifuf did.
