76000 Games in a Gameboy. I call it the MegaJoyBoy! BIG PICS

Post by All4Sky »

Hello everyone, new member and first post here. This is my first attempt at making a portable (although I don't consider it to be an "authentic" portable). Inspired by Ladyada's Game Grrl, some of bquach's diagrams, and of course this great forum.

Essentially I crammed a Hip-Gear screen (xbox grey ribbon cable version) and NOAC 76000 in one Mega Joy into an old Gameboy case I had laying around. I used the original Gameboy battery holder, power switch, buttons, and headphone jack. Here are some pictures of the installation:

In this picture you can see the original gameboy control board w/ screen. I cut off the bottom part:

Here are the pictures of everything being wired up:

A picture of the control board I installed where a cartridge would usually slide in, I plan on cutting up an old gameboy cartridge and using it as a cover:

A picture of the finished product with the infamous 76000 game listing!:

Close-up shot of the screen playing Contra, the video adjust board really helps tweak the picture on the Hip-Gear screen:

Thats about it for now. Currently I use headphones to listen to the audio. Can someone point me to a simple audio amp circuit I can use to power the original gameboy speaker?

Next I plan to make another NES portable with a cartridge slot, and may start a portable PS2 project. I hope these images help, thanks for looking!

Looks cool! Will you next one have the cart slot like a gameboy or stick out the back?

Thanks for the kind words. As for the cart slot, I'm hoping I can make a nice case with a gameboy type slot (naturally it will be much larger than the megajoyboy).
Completed: MegaJoyBoy

In Progress: NESp (completed custom case, working on internal electronics)

Actually I have no idea. My mom gave it to me as a gift when I was younger because my original grey Gameboy was stolen. Not sure if the black was some special edition or not. I'm not really to fond of the purple text though, I may try to remove it and replace them with decals. Thanks.

Too bad the GameBoy's so small otherwise you could as a cart slot and make it better.

Nice job though you made the GameBoy what it should have been to begin with. As for the speaker thing why not just use the left speaker from the Hip Screen?

Sweet :) I had often windered if you could fit a NOAC in a GB case.

For the NES cart you could go with this idea: have wires extending from the NOAC to a NES cart connector, then you just have the NES cart in your pocket. The wires would have to extend about 2 ft, I would guess. You could use a connector on NOAC side of the cable if you don't want to have the cable always attached.

Nintendo tried to revive the GBO by offering it in black, green, blue, red, pink, and clear around '93, or when the GBP came out.
