MOD: Gameboy Original

Post by Skyone » Sun May 21, 2006 9:53 pm

I've been hinting at it for a while... Here is my Gameboy, in all it's Nintendo glory.

It has replaced A and B buttons, internal rechargable batteries with internal charger, and it's overclock (more like overspeeded). Click the pictures for 56k overkill.

I replaced the EXT port with a overclock switch. (4.194 MHz to 6 MHz)

Here you see the internal charger slot that takes in an AC adaptor (6v).

The AC Adaptor that charges the internal batteries.

And a bonus video of the overclock:

The rechargable batteris look just like AA's, because they are 1.2v single-cells that fit in the AA socket. This means I can replace the rechargable ones with regular AA's whenever I want to!

Comments anyone?

-Skyler

EDIT: If a mod thinks this should be in the NEWS forum... please move it.

Looks nice. Neither of us have to worry about changing batteries, just plug it in. Mine is color though. :P

Well I expect a lot of people (including me) have exams this week, so that might be most of the reason... but great job on the mod! I might have to replace the buttons in mine now that I think about it...

That's cool. I've read about GB OCing but to see it semi in the flesh is quite cool. I didn't expect the sound to go all high pitched and whatnot. That's what made it cool though :P

Good job. I really should be studying.

Where did you find out how to OC the GBO? I can only find tutes for GBA.
First, thanks for the comments, everyone.

I like the way the GB actually all speeds up, unlike regular OCing, the GB never really does lag, except in some high-sprited games. The mod was originally done so I could play Pokemon as if Ash Ketchum was on speed. So it was done!

Anyways, GBO's clock speed is originally 4.194 MHz, along with the GB pockets - 4.914 MHz. The GBC's clock is 8.388 MHz, 2x the GBO/P's. The GBAs speed is 16.776 MHz, 4x the GBO's. Strangley, the GBA uses an internal multiplier, so the GBA's crystal is actually the exact same as the GBO's and GBP's, except multiplied by 4.

All OCings of the GBs are simple clock switches. You buy a larger crystal (in my case, it was 6 MHz) and swap it out for the original or put a switch in like I did.

If you need anymore help, feel free to ask!

Cool mod, and yes NES buttons are better for a GBO. One question where did you find a GBO that was that clean and well taken care of, the thing looks mint.

Oh... oh. Ahem.
I haven't been checking the forums as much as normal.
Where did you get the internal charging circuitry?
Did it come with the batteries or something
