Hi,
This is really my second portable, but my SNESP died so I cant really prove that it ever worked. Anyway here it is:
Without screen.

With screen (Im thinking of painting the psone screen but its unmodded so I don't know yet.)

Its my PSPSP (HA! even those crafty Nintendo marketers couldn't think up a better name. Basically its a PSP only its clamshell so it becomes SP'ed.)
Anyway as you can see in my design I have both analog sticks.
Some people said that it can't be done because it wouldn't fit and you know what I have to say about that...

THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
Ha as you can see its a little bit unfinished (The controller board sticks out the back I'm pretty sure that qualifies as unfinished). I'm going to make a back plate for the shoulder buttons and a battery harness (and to hide the board). I still haven't found the correct tupperware container to do this back plate. *sigh* I'm too chicken to attach my battery pack (I don't know if the polarity is correct and I don't want to find out) so I use outlet power for now.
Let me know what you think. Is it worthy?
Oh yeah I have a few people to thank this project would not have been possible without the help of many people. Brian Gardener (the Palmpsone creator) helped me out with the buttons, Gannon put up with a lot of my PM's, Usbcd36 always replies to my posts, and Im sure there are many more names that should be up here.

you should of put the screen in that thing that covers the disc it would of used less space but still nice job very clean

How do you use the analog sticks when you're holding it? They look too low to comfortably hold the system with your thumbs on it.

As for the analog sticks its actually pretty comfortable to hold it if you run your index fingers up the side and use your middle and ring finger for the L, and R buttons. I did connect some simple shoulder buttons (just tact switches on pc board taped to the bottom). I might vacuumform the bottom if I get some cash soon, but I doubt it. I would like to keep the smooth look of the unit if possible. Also, I think I need to find a new color because white gets really dirty (I'll miss the NES-ish look of it now. I was supposed to get a modchip and get It might be NES and call my portable PNESP, but then I would look crazy asking people to watch my PNESP).
Just for fun heres a pic of the PSPSP next to a PSone. I'm really happy about how the case worked out, the buttons sit perfectly (not to high), and I get all the small details from the original controls (you cant see it in the picture but the cross is around the buttons and the dpad has the original arrows). The thing in place of the player one memory card slot is the analog light, and just in case you were wondering I wired the player 2 memory card slot to be player 1's slot (meaning there is no player 2 slot).

What did you use to paint it? It's really nicely done, so I was just wondering.

Great job! I love how the design is so simple and yet so easy and functional. I believe my ps1 case mod has finally been outdone Lovin the new paint job. And what did you do to make the buttons so smooth? Bondo/sanding? As for the controller board, did you try gluing it horizontally on the top of the case? (view my PS1P page on my site if want a pic of what I mean.)

The paints you use in projects like these can easily make or break your finish. I have always used Testors paints (the kind for models) on my projects. I wish I had my airbrush, but using a (spray) can can be just as good if you keep it clean. To put the controlls into the PSone shell i cut out the controls from a controller and tryed to mount them as flush as possible (you might notice they ended up a little askew which actually helps you hold it). This way I saved the feel and look of the original controls (and the bottons don't rotate), and yes I bondo/sanded these parts in (it was really hard to keep the details in there). Also when you sand these kinds of projects make sure you have a few diffrent grits. After primer you want the lowest grit and work your way up to the highest to ensure the smoothest possible finish. I did the same for the start/select buttons which replaced the player 1 slot.



Thanks G-Force I'll try that, Im going to rewire a lot of things inside anyway to make it close more easily (there must be a mile of wire in there).

maybe you could try your battery on your not portable psone and see if it works

UPDATE: I was able to cram the control boards into the case (that was tough, and the sides bulge a little bit) and I put complete shoulder buttons on the back (i used the elastomers on that part because it saved me space). I made my battery pack, and all I need is velcro to put it on the back. I'll post pictures soon.
